MMA inside the AEW ring? Thunder Rosa hopes so
Combate Global and AEW Women’s World Champion Melissa “Thunder Rosa” Cervantes will return to Combate Global – this time as a color commentator – for the promotion’s Paramount+ streamed live events on Friday, July 15 and Friday, July 22, respectively, from Miami, Florida.
While the pro wrestler and mixed martial artist may have her hands full with commentary duties, she also has aspirations of one day competing in MMA…… but inside the wrestling ring.
Rosa recently did an interview with Jim Varsallone and revealed that she would want to have an MMA fight with American Top Team’s Paige VanZant (another MMA fighter signed with the AEW organization).
“I don’t say no to nothing. So, if you know if AEW wanted to do it, go ahead,” said Thunder Rosa. “You know enough I’ll ask Combate Global. I’ll be like, ‘Hey Just give me a tee shirt.’ We’ll put like Global in there so we can do co-promoting. We could be like watch us on Univision and Paramount. I don’t know everything is possible. You know, the forbidden door. Let’s talk about the forbidden door right here.”
Rosa, a native of Tijuana, B.C., Mexico and resident of San Antonio, Texas, notched her biggest professional wrestling victory to date on March 16, defeating Britt Baker D.M.D. to win the AEW Women’s World Championship.
During her pro wrestling career, which began in 2014, Rosa also wrestled for Lucha Underground, Impact Wrestling, NWA, Ring of Honor, Shine, Tokyo Joshi Pro, WOW Women of Wrestling and more. She is a former NWA champ.
Rosa last competed in MMA in 2019, losing a unanimous decision at Combate Global 49.
