Mom KO’s MMA Matchmaker with Ultimate Excuse: “My Boy’s Too Bruised to Brawl”
Being an MMA matchmaker is not an easy task by any stretch of the imagination. It takes a special set of skills to not only put together an entertaining card of both amateur and professional mixed martial arts bouts for the fans but also maintain your sanity while dealing with the needs of competitors and family members.
Below is the tale of just one of the more recent shenanigans that a matchmaker encountered while trying to please the Fight Gods.
We will intentionally leave the fighter’s name out of the article but drop just enough clues for fight fans to piece the puzzle together.
The next Synergy Fighting Championship event goes down Sep. 20 from the Shrine Mosque from Springfield, Missouri, but this promising card will be without a “Prince.”
“Regional MMA is a trip sometime,” Chris Gregory, Synergy FC’s promoter and MMA matchmaker wrote on social media. “Had a fighter’s mom reach out to me to tell me he was injured!
#MatchmakerProblems”
In a stunning turn of events, a local 34-year-old professional mixed marital artist with a record of 5-9 was yanked from the upcoming Synergy FC 22 card after his mother declared her son unfit to fight due to a mysterious injury. The announcement left fans, fighters, and even Gregory himself dumbfounded.
The “catastrophic boo-boo” which reportedly is a rib injury, may have been sustained while training for the fight, or during a particularly intense session of folding fitted bedsheets. We’ll never know because no further information has been provided.
The MMA community has been buzzing with reactions since Gregory’s post.
“I bet she calls into work for him too,” Joe Wooster, wrote.
Wooster, well-known in the MMA community, particularly in the Kansas City area as a gym owner, MMA matchmaker, and promoter, also enlightened Gregory’s followers on another matchmaking experience that would make your blood boil.
“I’ve yet to see or hear about a back out that beats this,” Wooster wrote. “Day of the fight fighter had ‘herpes’ on his face. Fight Doc confirmed it was in fact razor burn but fighter insisted it was herpes and backed out. Asked for his show money since he made weight. 🤣 I bet momma wouldn’t want to make that call.”
As for the unnamed fighter now removed from the Synergy event, he’s reportedly grounded—literally and figuratively—until further notice. Sources say mom has confiscated his fight gloves and replaced them with oven mitts, insisting he focus on “healing” and helping with the dishes. The MMA world waits with bated breath to see if he can negotiate another bout before mom’s ironclad authority intervenes in booking the next fight card.
In the meantime, more than a dozen fighters do have their mother’s permission to compete at Synergy FC 22 which will air live on Spectation Sports.
