41-year old Mother and 19-year old son to fight on same MMA card
History will be made next month as 41-year old Miyu Yamamoto, a three-time Freestyle Wrestling World Champion will make her MMA debut on Rizin WGP in September. Her 19-year old son Asen Yamamoto is coming back of a MMA debut loss against Kron Gracie.
It is the first time in professional mixed martial arts history that a mother-son duo have ever competed on the same fight card.
Asen (o-1) will taken on Kizaemon Saiga who currently holds a professional mixed martial arts record of 2-1.
Miyu’s opponent has not yet been named. Her brother is none other than Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto. She is also the sister to Seiko Yamamoto, a four-time world champion from 1999 to 2002.
Miyu was previously married to famed athletes, Akira Sasaki (Alpine Skier) (2006–2011), Enson Inoue (Mixed Martial Artist) (2000–2004), Nobuyasu Ikeda (Soccer Player) (1995–1999). Sasaki is Asen’s father.
Miyu competed in a freestyle wrestling match at the largest women’s pro wrestling event in history at the Tokyo Dome before 32,500 fans. She later won world championships in 1994 and 1995.
Rizin FF 2: Fighting World Grand Prix 2016: Opening Round goes down September 25 at the Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo, Japan. Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic will headline the Rizin FF card against an unnamed opponent.
