Mounir Lazzez secures unanimous decision with ease against Alhassan
The action continues on “Fight Island” as UFC on ESPN 13 kicks off tonight, Wednesday, July 13.
Just four days removed from UFC 251, the promotion returns to the Flash Forum on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.
The event is headlined by ranked featherweights Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige. A flyweight matchup between Ryan Benoit and Tim Elliott will serve as the co-main event.
In the opening bout of the main card, Abdul Razak Alhassan will take on Mounir Lazzez in welterweight contest.
Unfortunately, Alhassan will be foregoing 20% of his purse to Lazzez, as he missed the 171lb weight limit by 3lbs. Due to circumstances outside of the cage, this will be Alhassan’s first bout in roughly 2 years. The 10-1 welterweight is looking to come back in a big way on Wednesday evening at UFC on ESPN 13.
Lazzez will be making his promotional debut against Alhassan at UFC on ESPN 13. Representing Team Nogueira Dubai, Lazzez will be looking to keep his momentum rolling after coming off of a 59 second knockout in February.

The fighters touch gloves and the bout begins with Lazzez committing to a leg kick. Alhassan blitzes forward backing Lazzez against the cage. Lazzez fires back his own punches. Alhassan gets the best of the exchange and begins to tee off. Lazzez attempts a head kick while Alhassan and is on the assault. Lazzez lets the storm pass while he waits against the fence. Lazzez resurges from his shell with knees and kicks of his own. However, Alhassan is staying relentlessly active on his man. Lazzez is attempting to press his way forward with lead elbows as Alhassan stalks his prey once again. At the midway point of the round, Alhassan has slowed slightly, given Lazzez room to open up a bit. Lazzez is switching from head to body and keeping Alhassan guessing. With under a minute left Lazzez marches forward, staying heavy on leg kicks that are clearly taking their toll. At the end of the round, Lazzez switches levels and gets the tape down to end the opening stanza.

Round 2.
The fighters open round two by exchanging leg kicks. Alhassan is walking Lazzez down with Lazzez countering beautifully. Lazzez lands multiple strikes coming forward, backing Alhassan against the fence. Lazzez begins to tee off, throwing punches in bunches. Alhassan begins fires back as a slugfest ensues. Lazzez is able to get Alhassan to the mat once again as he goes to work with strikes to a grounded Alhassan. The fighters stand back up and Lazzez starts teeing off once again on Alhassan; Mixing it up with punches and knees, he then switches his levels and scores another takedown on Alhassan. With a stall on the gerund, the referee stands the fighters up. Alhassan gets to work and starts unleashing a heavy punch barrage on Lazzez. Lazzez returns fire to draw a close to the round.

Round 3
Alhassan attempts his own takedown and is shrugged off by Lazzez. The fighters get to work in the center of the cage and Alhassan is stalking his Lazzez early. Lazzez lands a head kick and a lead knee upstairs, forcing Alhassan to clinch and take the contest to the ground, securing his own takedown. Lazzez bounces back to his feet immediately. Alhassan presses Lazzez against the fence. Lazzez is able to reverse positioning and is actively looking for a takedown. Lazzez scores another takedown with two minutes left in the round. Lazzez is riding out the round in side control while Alhassan is attempting to get to his feet. With 15 seconds, Alhassan gets to his feet and begins swinging for the fences. Lazzez does an excellent job avoiding any damage as the final bell sounds.
