Namajunas and Andrade agree to rematch at UFC event on July 11
Former UFC strawweight champions Rose Namajunas and Jessica Andrade are running it back on July 11.
According to Brett Okamoto of ESPN, Namajunas and Andrade agreed to the rematch. The bout is expected to be on the UFC 251 card. There is no official location for the bout.
In May, UFC president Dana White said he would live on “Fight Island” throughout July. White added the UFC would hold three to four events on the island during July.
The bout was originally scheduled for UFC 249, but was scratched when Rose withdrew.
It is a little over a year since Andrade took the strap from Namajunas with a slam knockout in the second round at UFC 237 in May 2019. It is the last time Namajunas stepped into the octagon.
Previously, the 27-year-old won and defended the strap, defeating Joanna Jedrzejczyk on two occasions. Namajunas handed Jedrzejczyk her first career loss via first-round TKO at UFC 217 in November 2017.
She then earned a unanimous decision against Jedrzejczyk at UFC 223 in April 2018.
“Thug Rose” was riding a three-fight unbeaten streak when she lost to Andrade.
After winning the title from Namajunas, Andrade dropped the belt in a first-round TKO loss to Weili Zhang at UFC on ESPN+ 15 in August 2019. The defeat ended a four-fight win streak for the Brazilian.
