Nate Diaz calls for a fight with Dustin Poirier at 185 pounds, Poirier responds
Nate Diaz is looking to get in on the action with Dustin Poirier. Diaz took to Twitter to mention Poirier’s name for a possible fight, the thing is he wants it at 185 pounds.

“185lbs,” Diaz wrote. “Pull-up.”
This call-out is strange for many reasons. First off, neither of these men should be fighting at middleweight. Diaz’s last fight was at welterweight and that still isn’t the weight class Diaz has spent the majority of his career. He has mentioned in the past that he is less likely to return to lightweight, but then why call for Poirier at 30 pounds over his weight class.
As for Poirier, he is on his way to a lightweight title fight against champion Charles Oliveira, but could he be pursued to take a detour and challenge Diaz? His response to Diaz on social media certainly makes it seem so.
I'd touch you up at any weight

“I’d touch you up at any weight,” Poirier responded.
These two fighters are in two very different boats. Poirier is coming off his two biggest wins and is next in line for a title. Diaz has now lost two in a row, so what makes this fight attractive to Poirier? Money. A fight with Nate Diaz comes with a big paycheck. He is one of the biggest draws in the UFC and is a fan favorite. Poirier could have easily gotten his title shot following his first win over Conor McGregor, but he chose the rematch for monetary reasons.
Poirier could take a fight with Diaz at any weight, win and still be next for Oliveira. Another bright side of this potential matchup with Diaz at middleweight is no weight cut. That could make the fight happen sooner than later and Poirier might not even have to skip a beat. His last fight didn’t last too long, with McGregor breaking his ankle, and Poirier didn’t take too much damage.
Poirier seems like a man who is into taking the opportunities as they come and this shot at Diaz seems like one that may be too good to pass up. The call-out and response may just be the beginning. We will have to wait and see if anything comes to fruition.
