Neil Magny defeats Max Griffin in razor close decision

UFC Columbus: Blaydes vs. Daukaus is taking place on March 26, 2022 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, United States. In the main event top heavyweights contenders will be action as Curtis Blaydes will take on Chris Daukaus. Meanwhile, A women’s flyweight bout between Joanne Wood and Alexa Grasso will partake in the co-main event.

In this highlighted recap we will feature ranked welterweights as Neil Magny squares off against Max Griffin.

Neil Magny (25-8), will be entering his 26th UFC fight tonight. After getting knocked out by Santiago Ponzinibbio (2018), Magny earned unanimous decisions over Li Jingliang, Rocco Martin and Robbie Lawler, eventually running into Michael Chiesa. Magny bounced back with a win over Geoff Neal. Magny enters the 9th ranked welterweight.

Max Griffin (18-8), on the other hand is enjoying a resurgence in his career as of late after his latest loss – split decision to Alex Oliveira (2020), he has gone on to TKO Ramiz Brahimaj (2020) taking his ear home, brutally knock Kenan Song out in the first round and a unanimous decision over the veteran Carlos Condit (2021). Currently Griffin is ranked outside the top 15, but a win could change that.

Here’s how the fight played out round by round:

ROUND 1:

Your referee in charge is Keith Peterson. The fight starts off slow, Griffin lands a few punches that backs up Magny. Both fighters trying to implement the jab. Griffin trying to get the calf kicks going, Max Griffin lands a massive right hand going backwards that drops Magny. Griffin lets him up and you can see a different look on Magnys face after feeling the power.  The Griffin right hand is the money shot. Final seconds, big moments from Griffin in round 1.

ROUND 2:

A big round needed for Magny. Urgency is required, Magny comes out with the jab. Magny catching Griffin at the of his punches, a pause in the action due to a eye poke from Griffin. After the short stoppage Griffin comes out with a solid right hand. Griffins movement is seeming to unsettle Magny. And on CUE Magny trying to make it a dog fight, and with 2 minutes to go both fighters are swinging. A flying knee attempt from Magny after a much better round from Magny.

ROUND 3:

Magny trying so hard for the takedown early, he really wants the fight to the ground. Eventually Magny drags Griffin down with one hook in. Magny doing a good job keeping Griffin on the canvas, both hooks are in. Griffin scrambles to the cage, Magny’s pace has not stopped as expected. At the end of the round Magny drops Griffin on his head! What a fight.
