New UFC rankings: Rockhold earns top seed, Herrig drops off top 10, VanZant in
If the UFC’s newest rankings after UFC on FOX 15 are any indication as to who may receive the next UFC middleweight title shot, Luke Rockhold or Jacare Souza, the answer may be in the man who defeated the former UFC light heavyweight champion.
Rockhold moved up three spaces in the UFC middleweight rankings to the number one position after he defeated Lyoto Machida in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday. Behind him, is number two, the man he defeated several years ago to claim the Strikeforce middleweight championship.
Although Souza is undefeated since arriving in the UFC and Rockhold does have that one blemish, a loss to Vitor Belfort, it is Rockhold who claims the number one spot.
Also, in the women’s strawweight division, Paige VanZant enters the list of top ten 115-pound women in the world after she beat Felice Herrig on the judges’ scorecards this past weekend. With her loss Herrig drops out of the top ten list to the number 11 spot.
Former champion and TUF 20 winner Carla Esparza still holds on to the number one position.
