Nicholas Mimoso, Pennsylvania MMA fighter on parole, arrested on possession of illegal firearms
Attorney General Michelle Henry announced a collaborative law enforcement effort resulting in the recent arrest of a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania man with a cache of illegally possessed firearms, according to a press release.
Nicholas Mimoso, an amateur mixed martial artist (3-1) out of the Keystone State, has prior convictions for felony drug trafficking and firearms possession and is on parole. He is charged with corrupt organizations and related charges, including firearms possession offenses tied to ten firearms, along with two switches converting the firearms to fully automatic, that were seized during searches this week.
Agents also disbanded a large-scale marijuana manufacturing operation, seizing nearly $1 million marijuana products while serving a series of search warrants Monday at Mimoso’s residence, a business where he is employed, its warehouse location, and a vehicle.
Mimoso, 35, was arraigned Tuesday and remains incarcerated on $500,000 bail as well as a parole detainer.
“This dangerous felon had stockpiled guns while steering a massive drug production and distribution network,” Attorney General Henry said. “Our Philadelphia Gun Violence Task Force and Bureau of Narcotics Investigations has once again demonstrated that a network of agencies working to remove firearms and arrest individuals who disregard the law make communities safer.”
The Office of Attorney General received information from the state Department of Corrections – Parole Field Services that Mimoso has posted a photograph to social media, displaying himself in possession of a firearm.
Search warrants were served at a home in the 2300 block of Borbeck Avenue, locations in the 7300 block of State Road (home of FTS Enterprises) and 7300 block of Wissinoming Street, and a vehicle.
Agents recovered a shotgun, ammunition, a ballistics vest and a riot helmet labeled “POLICE.” Most of the guns are believed to be illegally obtained as there was evidence Mimoso was attempting to have others buy or straw purchase firearms for him.
A marijuana grow operation was discovered at the Wissinoming Street location and the State Road building was used as a storage location.
A second person, Miguel Alamilla, a felon out of Florida, also is charged with illegal possession of a firearm, resulting from the searches.
The Office of Attorney General Philadelphia Gun Violence Task Force works collaboratively with local, state, and federal agencies to track straw purchases and other illegal transfers and possession of firearms, and incidents of violence that result from those transactions.
Last year, the Task Force seized more than 500 firearms and was a part of nearly 400 investigations in Philadelphia.
The Mimoso case will be prosecuted by Office of Attorney General Gun Violence Task Force Deputy Attorney General Maggie Hayes-Oberst. All charges are accusations. The defendants are innocent unless and until proven guilty.
