Nick Diaz vs Vicente Luque postponed, UFC on ABC 7 gets exciting new co-main event
Nick Diaz vs Vicente Luque postponed
Former WEC and Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz won’t be making his return to the octagon this summer as expected.
Diaz’ scheduled bout with no. 13 ranked Vicente Luque, which was expected to take place on August 3, 2024, at UFC on ABC 7 in Abu Dhabi, has been postponed, the UFC citing “travel issues” as the reason for the postponement.
The news broke earlier tonight during UFC Vegas 94, and it is unclear which fighter was having issues entering the Middle East.
This was to be Diaz’ first fight in three years, since September of 2021 when he lost his rematch to former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler, and just his second fight in nearly 10 years, his original exit bout being against former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva in January of 2015.
Diaz vs Luque was also expected to serve as the events co-main event to Cory Sandhagen vs Umar Nurmagomedov.
Instead, the UFC has booked a new co-main event between a pair dangerous of European strikes in Russia’s Shara Magomedov and Poland’s Michal Oleksiejczuk.
Magomedov comes into the bout undefeated at 13-0 with 11 knockouts, two of those wins coming in the UFC. Oleksiejczuk on the other hand, though has lost a few times at 19-8, hasn’t lost a stand-up fight yet.
Oleksiejczuk boasts seven wins inside the octagon with six knockouts, his most recent coming over 12-1-1 kickboxer Chidi Njokuani, including 14 knockouts in his 19 total wins.
Of Oleksiejczuk’s eight career defeats, six come via submission; we won’t be expecting any grappling between these two next month.
Who wins this battle of strikers going down at UFC on ABC 7?
