Nikita Krylov vs Ryan Spann cancelled, Andre Muniz vs Brendan Allen bumped up to UFC Vegas 70 main event
The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to us tonight, February 25, 2023, for UFC Vegas 70, going down live from the UFC Apex in Enterprise, Nevada.
Headlining the event was expected to be a light-heavyweight bout between a pair of dangerous finishers in no. 6 ranked Nikita Krylov (29-9) and no. 8 ranked Ryan Spann (21-7).
Both men were coming into tonight’s main event on two-fight win streaks, and of their 50 combined wins, 45 came via finish.
What’s more, both were coming off wins over former title challengers, as Krylov had most recently defeated Alexander Gustafsson (KO) and Volkan Oezdemir (UD) in back-to-back fights, while Spann most recently defeated Dominick Reyes (KO), the man many believed beat Jon Jones in Jones’ last fight.
However, Krylov unfortunately fell ill just before the main card began, and we’re out a main event tonight at UFC Vegas 70.
Instead, the co-main event between BJJ ace Andre Muniz (23-4) and highly touted Brendan Allen (20-5) will serve as the main event tonight.
Muniz comes into the bout on a nine-fight win streak with six finishes, securing four armbars in that time including his submission victory over 6th-degree BJJ black belt Jacare Souza, while Allen comes in on a three-fight win streak, having secured two of those victories via rear naked choke.
