Ohio Combat League 17 features Antonio Castillo Jr. vs. Andrew Huffman
Ohio Combat League 17 will mark the promotion’s first event of 2022, as the Cherry Valley Event Center in Newark, Ohio will host a dozen fights.
In the main event and lone pro bout, two fighters who made their MMA debuts more than a decade ago will square off, as Antonio Castillo Jr. faces Andrew Huffman in a featherweight bout.
With more than 40 combined pro fights between them, it’s surprising that the two Ohio fighters haven taken this long to cross paths.
Castillo, who made his pro debut in 2010, comes into the bout with a 2-2 record in his last four outings as he looks to inch his record back to .500 after starting his career with a 9-4 mark. In his lone MMA bout in 2021, he earned a vicious knockout via elbow strikes on the ground against James Douglas at B2 Fighting Series 121. In November he earned his second pro boxing win with a TKO victory over 30-fight veteran Eric Palmer.
Huffman has just one bout since 2013, a submission loss against Jeremiah Yeager at Bayfront Brawl 5 in 2018. He has five of his wins via knockout or TKO, including three in the first round.
Also set for the event is an amateur light heavyweight title bout pitting Darryl Booker against Mataeo Garner. Booker holds a 5-2 overall record including back-to-back wins after returning from a four-and-a-half year hiatus. He submitted Damascus Mosley in just 34 seconds at OCL 16 to earn the title shot.
Garner comes in from Pennsylvania with a 3-1 record, including two straight wins. His most recent outing was a decision victory over Blair Phillips at Bayfront Brawl 11 in November.
