Professional Fighters League: PFL Everett Results
The Professional Fighters League held a fight card tonight from the Xfinity Arena in Everett, Washington. Preliminary bouts were available for live stream on MyMMANews.com
Andre Harrison ran his record to a perfect 17-0 but you wouldn’t have known it by talking to him after his five-round main event fight with a very game Steven Rodriguez (10-3) at XFINITY Arena. The top promotional featherweight took four of the five rounds on each judge’s card but was not satisfied with his performance.
“I am not happy with that performance,” said Harrison. “I know I’m still 17-0 but like I always say, I don’t look at the recored I look at the performance and that was not up to my standards. He wasn’t really fast, didn’t really hit hard and he was nowhere near the opponent Lance (Palmer) was when I fought him. He’s the kind of guy I have to get out of there and I didn’t do it.”
Yushin Okami (34-10) used his grappling skills to control Andre Lobato (25-7) on his way to a comfortable unanimous decision victory. The Japanese veteran pressed forward and kept the pressure on Lobato who could not keep the fight standing long enough to do much damage. In the end Okami impressed one judge enough and was awarded a 30-25 score while the other two saw it as a 30-27 score.
Jake Shields (32-9-1) put together one of the most lopsided scorecards you’ll ever see in mixed martial arts after dominating Danny Davis Jr. (13-12-1) over three rounds. After cycling through mount and back mount at will Shields attempted multiple choke attempts but Davis thwarted him at every turn. Shields continued to pepper him with short shots trying to open him up for a submission but his efforts proved futile. The judge’s tallies, when read, spelled out just how dominant Shields was. Scores of 30-24, 30-24 and 30-25 drove home the overwhelming nature of the win.
“His skill level was about what I expected but his heart and desire to compete were way better than I figured they would be,” said Shields. I had him in a lot of bad positions and especially in the third round I thought I would be able to get the choke but he kept pushing through. I think it was a moral victory for him to get to the end of the fight and he definitely didn’t roll over.”
Bruno Santos (16-2) went to work early on the legs of Rex Harris (10-3) and it paid off late when the Brazilian was able to stalk his opponent around the cage, close the distance and win the exchanges on his way to a unanimous decision victory. The middleweight contender expressed his desire to fight for a title and he’ll likely get that chance when the Professional Fighters League kicks off their 2018 season.
“I prepared very well for this fight and I knew I would be able to put on a good fight,” said Santos. I went after his legs, that is my specialty and it paid off later in the fight. Now it’s time for me to fight for the middleweight title, I think I have proven I deserve it.”
