Pierre Ludet, an up and coming mixed martial artist out of France has died.
The 22-year-old fighter was serving as a police officer, assigned to the specialized field brigade (BST) of the 15th arrondissement of Marseille and was found dead at his home on the night of Sunday to Monday according to a report from L’Ardennais.
Authorities believe Ludet died from suicide due to a single gunshot, fired from his service weapon.
The report states “the young champion appreciated by all for his values, his empathy and his talent as a sportsman had decided to follow in the footsteps of his father, Christophe, also a police officer in Charleville-Mézières, then in Reims before himself being assigned to the South of France.”
Ludet began his amateur MMA journey in 2017, going 2-0 before turning pro later that year. He would go on to record a professional record of 6-1. His lone loss came at M-1 Challenge 101 to Asu Almabaev in March 2019. In his last outing, Ludet recorded a unanimous decision win over Shakhpur Salaev at Integra FC 13 in October 2019.
L’Ardennais also reports that Ludet is the ninth member of the national police service to die from suicide since January 1.
