Pyotr Mineev, brother of MMA champ Vladimir Mineev, killed in war in Ukraine
Pyotr Mineev, the younger brother of AMC Fight Nights middleweight champion Vladimir Mineev, has been killed in Ukraine.
Pyotr, who was 30-year-old at the time of his death, served under contract in the airborne brigade stationed in Ulyanovsk, Russia.
Vladimir, 30, announced his brother’s passing earlier this week.
“Friends, the world has fallen and turned upside down, and life has changed dramatically, but does not stop,” wrote champion from Yekaterinburg. “For all known reasons, I suspend blogging on META networks. I will keep in touch on Telegram and VKontakte. There are links to accounts in stories.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on Russian soldiers to surrender. Russian President Vladimir Putin sent troops into Ukraine several weeks ago. Hundreds of thousands of civilians remain trapped and under fire in Ukrainian cities as the war escalates.
Vladimir Mineev currently holds a professional mixed martial arts record of 16-1. He won the AMC Fight Nights middleweight title in Moscow in 2020 and successfully defended the championship belt last year in Sochi.
Ironically, Mineev’s only pro loss was to Maiquel Falcao, who himself was stabbed and killed in Brazil earlier this year.
Vladimir himself was under contract with Russian military forces until just last year.
