Rafael dos Anjos praises Charles Oliveira for “amazing performance” at UFC 262
Former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos praised newly-crowned divisional king Charles Oliveira for his victory at UFC 262.
Oliveira became the new UFC lightweight champion when he knocked out Michael Chandler at UFC 262 this past Saturday night in Houston, Texas. It was an impressive win for Oliveira on its own, but more so because of the fact he did it after being in the UFC for 11 years.
Another fighter who also became a UFC champion after battling inconsistency was dos Anjos, who for many years was basically a gatekeeper at lightweight. Though he made his UFC debut in 2008, it took RDA until 2015 to become a UFC champion. He basically came out of nowhere to capture the title, much like Oliveira has at lightweight. Taking to his Twitter following Oliveira’s win, RDA praised his fellow Brazilian for picking up the biggest win of his incredible UFC career.
Lightweight division it’s a shark tank, can’t wait to see what’s next for me. I’m healing up…can’t wait to be back in action. Congrats to the new champ! Amazing performance btw.

As dos Anjos mentioned in his tweet, he is currently healing up but hopefully, he is able to return to the Octagon soon and defend his top-10 ranking at lightweight. It will be interesting to see who the UFC matches him up with next. Given Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor will be fighting for the No. 1 contender spot at UFC 264 and several other top lightweights just fought at UFC 262, there aren’t that many options for the former champion if he wants a top-10 opponent.
Looking at the top-10, Justin Gaethje is available to fight if RDA is ready to come back soon. Otherwise, there really isn’t anyone else in the top-10 who he hasn’t fought yet. It’s possible he might have to fight someone ranked like Gregor Gillespie.
Who do you want to see Rafael dos Anjos fight in his return to the Octagon?
