Randa Markos no longer on UFC roster after fighting out her contract
Randa Markos is no longer a UFC fighter.
According to MMAFighting, the UFC opted not to re-sign Markos after the Canadian fought out her UFC contract against Livia Renato Souza on October 23. She had made it vocal before the fight it was do-or-die for her, but even with her winning, it still wasn’t enough for her to get re-signed.
The news did surprise some as Markos said after her last fight she was not done with MMA and she thought the win would secure her contract.
“I feel great about my performance. We worked really hard, me and my team. … We were actually preparing for the last fight, and from there I didn’t get to showcase what I’ve been learning (because of a disqualification loss),” Markos said. “We just kept moving forward from there, and I’m really excited about being here, about having this opportunity, and about being able to showcase all the skills I’ve been working on. I’m not done. I’m not ready to move on from MMA. I’m here and I want to make sure that I stay here. This was a make-it or break-it. That’s it.”
Randa Markos (11-11-1) snapped her four-fight losing streak last time out as she earned a decision victory over Souza. Prior to that, she suffered a DQ loss to Luana Pinheiro, a decision loss to Kanako Murata, a submission loss to Mackenzie Dern, and a decision loss to Amanda Ribas. The Canadian went 7-10-1 inside the Octagon. She was known for alternating wins and losses for the majority of her UFC career and does hold notable wins over Carla Esparza, Angela Hill, and Ashley Yoder. She has also fought and lost to Claudia Gadelha, Alexa Grasso, and Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
Whether or not Markos will continue her MMA career is uncertain, but if she does, she likely will have some options.
