Raphael Assuncao vs. Kyler Phillips booked for Fight Night card in March
Raphael Assuncao and Kyler Phillips will finally share the Octagon with one another.
Assuncao and Phillips were supposed to fight on July 24, 2021, but the Brazilian was forced out of the bout due to an injury. Now, according to Phillips’ management, Iridium sports, Phillips is set to face Assuncao on March 11 at The Theater inside Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event currently does not have a main event.
Raphael Assuncao (27-9) snapped his four-fight losing skid back in October as he upset Victor Henry by decision. On the losing streak, he was knocked out by Ricky Simon and Cody Garbrandt, dropped a decision to Cory Sandhagen, and to begin the losing skid, was submitted by Marlon Moraes in a title eliminator. To earn the title eliminator – which also was a main event – he was on a four-fight win streak with wins over Rob Font, Matthew Lopez, Moraes, and Aljamain Sterling.
Assuncao has been in the UFC since 2011 and has a record of 12-6 inside the Octagon. Prior to joining the UFC, the Brazilian fought in WEC and in his career, holds notable wins over TJ Dillashaw, Bryan Caraway, Johnny Eduardo, and Pedro Munhoz among others.
Kyler Phillips (10-2) returned to the win column last time out as he scored a third-round submission over Marcelo Rojo at UFC 271. Prior to that, he suffered a controversial majority decision loss to Raulian Paiva for his first loss inside the UFC. Before the loss to Paiva, the 27-year-old was 3-0 in the UFC with wins over Yadong Song by decision, Cameron Else by TKO, and a decision win over Gabriel Silva. His other career loss was by decision to Victor Henry by split decision in 2018.
With the addition of Assuncao vs. Phillips, the Fight Night card on March 11 is as follows:
- SD Dumas vs. Abu Azaitar
- Lukasz Brzeski vs. Karl Williams
- JJ Aldrich vs. Ariane Lipski
