Raul Rosas Jr slated to face TUF 29 winner Ricky Turcios at UFC Mexico City
UFC Fight Night 237 is coming along quite nicely, as the Ultimate Fighting Championships just recently added their eighth bout to the lineup.
UFC FN 237 is to go down on February 24, 2024, live from the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico.
In addition to a flyweight main event between no. 1 ranked former champion Brandon Moreno (21-7-2) and no. 2 ranked Amir Albazi (17-1), and a featherweight rematch between former interim champion Yair Rodriguez (15-4) and fellow former title challenger Brian Ortega (14-3), 19-year-old phenom Raul Rosas Jr (8-1) is slated to face The Ultimate Fighter 29 winner Ricky Turcios (12-3) at this event.
Following a 4-0 run as an amateur with two knockouts and two decisions, Turcios would turn professional in 2013, winning his first eight bouts including a victory over current UFC finisher Steve Garcia (SD), en route to his first defeat to future promotional talent Boston Salmon (UD).
Turcios would go 2-1 over his next three outings prior to joining The Ultimate Fighter 29 cast, going 2-0 on the show before winning it with his victory over Brady Hiestand (SD) in the finals.
Next Turcios would lose to Aiemann Zahabi (UD), Tristar owner Firas Zahabi’s brother, before winning his most recent contest against Kevin Natividad (SD). He aims to secure his first promotional finish next month with a victory over the surging teenager Raul Rosas Jr.
Rosas went 2-0 as an amateur with two first round submissions prior to turning professional in 2021, where he’d win his first five bouts with four submissions and a lone knockout before being called up to appear on the Contender Series at just 17 years of age.
Rosas would absolutely maul the 7-1 Mando Gutierrez on the show, winning the handed unanimous decision with over 12 minutes of control time. This performance awarded him a UFC contract, where he submitted Jay Perrin (rear naked choke) midway through the opening round of his UFC debut. He’d drop his first defeat in his sophomore effort however to Christian Rodriguez (UD), but there’s no shame in that; Rodriguez is 10-1 as a professional and just handed fellow young stud Cameron Saaiman his first defeat as well.
The Mexican-American star would then face the 14-3 former AFC flyweight champion Terrence Mitchell, who he took down, mounted, and TKO’d in just 54 seconds of his most recent bout in September.
Who comes out of this bantamweight match up going down at UFC Mexico City the victor?
