Referee error leads to no-contest at UFC Vegas 82

Both Treg Ogden and Nikolas Motta have reason to be upset today following a rare referee error that led to a no-contest ruling at UFC Vegas 82.

Ogden was applying an arm-triangle choke to Motta who seemed be calmly defending himself in attempt avoid submission.

Referee Mike Beltran was calling for Motta to signal that he was ok, but despite his attempt to stay in the fight, a decision was made by the official in charge of the contest.

Beltran called a stop to the action in the third-round, and while Ogden celebrated, Motta quickly jumped to his feet in protest.

As a result of the error, the fight was ruled as a no-contest meaning that unless the UFC offers to give Ogden a win-bonus, he will only receive his show money.

“I’m pretty disappointed right now,” Ogden said after the fight. “I’m in the third round of a tough fight, I’ve got bills to pay and a no-contest? I deserve my win money. I don’t care about records, whatever, but I better get paid because I’m in mounted arm triangle, I heard the ref tell him three times to show him he was still there, and on the third time, he stops the fight. I didn’t stop the fight.

“If he just let it go two more minutes, Nik would have never got out of mount, I win, I get my money. I don’t understand.”
