Report: Kay Hansen parts ways with the UFC following third consecutive loss at UFC 273
After going 1-3 in her first run with the UFC, the promotion has reportedly decided not to re-sign strawweight Kay Hansen.
After a four-fight stint with the UFC, strawweight Kay Hansen is no longer a part of the promotion’s roster. Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting was first to report on Wednesday night that after fighting out the final fight of her contract at UFC 273 last weekend, the promotion has decided not to re-sign Hansen.
Starting off her UFC tenure off right, Kay Hansen picked up a win in her promotional debut with a third-round submission victory over Jinh Yu Frey in 2020, but failed to follow up on that momentum as she lost her next three fights. Those losses would come to Cory McKenna, Jasmine Jasudavicius, and most recently Piera Rodriguez all of whom defeated Hansen by unanimous decision. In her fight against Rodriguez at UFC 273, Hansen would miss the strawweight limit as she weighed in at 118.5 pounds, 2.5 pounds over the allowed mark, she was fined 20% of her pursue due to the weight miss.
While there has been no official word from the UFC, Hansen seemingly confirmed the news on her official Twitter page late Wednesday with a short and simple statement.

“22 years young. My career is just getting started.”
With a career professional record of 7-6 at 22-years old, Kay Hansen has an opportunity to get her career back on track no matter where she may land for her next fight promotion. Before signing with the UFC, she spent most of her career with Invicta FC and had a record of 4-3 and picked up one victory in an exhibition contest with the promotion as well.
Although she did not find early success in her first stint with the UFC, Kay Hansen was a widely popular fighter in the UFC and if she is able to find a new home, pick up more wins on her resume, there is always a chance that she can re-sign with the UFC at a later time, if both sides would be interested in a second opportunity.
