Report: Sean O’Malley vs Pedro Munhoz targeted for UFC 276 in July
Sean O’Malley will get his toughest test to date in his UFC career when he faces Pedro Munhoz at UFC 276 in July.
UFC bantamweight Sean O’Malley will reportedly be facing his toughest opponent to date at UFC 276 in July this summer. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was first to report that O’Malley will face the 10th-ranked Pedro Munhoz in a summer showcase of two ranked bantamweights looking to make their mark inside the 135-pound division.

Currently ranked 13th in the division, Sean O’Malley is currently riding a three-fight winning streak and is coming off a first-round stoppage over Raulian Paiva at UFC 269 in December of last year. Throughout his career, O’Malley has been patient with his trajectory and the opponents he has faced, and the scheduled fight against Munhoz will be a vast difference in competition to what the “Sugar Show” has faced in his previous fights.
One of the most popular fighters on the UFC roster will have an opportunity to silence critics who question the opposition that O’Malley has faced since signing with the UFC. During UFC Vegas 53 fight week, middleweight Gerald Meerschaert mentioned that he would like to be on the “Sean O’Malley” plan and face lesser competition rather than tough opponents.
Pedro Munhoz also has a great opportunity in this scheduled matchup, as he will look to rebound from back-to-back losses against legends Dominick Cruz and Jose Aldo respectively. Always one to bring a fun, high-action war inside the Octagon, Munhoz could put a halt to the “Sugar Show” train while potentially ending his losing streak, and keeping himself cemented inside the Top-10 of the bantamweight division. This will be the first fight for Munhoz in 2022 and his last win came against Jimmie Rivera in February of 2021.
It’s an unique opportunity for both fighters and one that Sean O’Malley has wanted to make happen, as he called for a fight against Munhoz to take place back at UFC 274, and while that did not come to fruition, they’ll now meet at UFC 276 in July.
There is currently no main event announced for UFC 276 but here is the fight card as it currently stands:
