Ricardo Lamas finishes third strong, defeats Bill Algeo by unanimous decision
The world’s largest MMA promotion is back at it again for UFC on ESPN+ 33 tonight, Saturday, Aug. 29.
A light-heavyweight clash between former title challenger Anthony Smith and Aleksandar Rakic headlines the event in the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The co-main event is a welterweight clash between former champion Robbie Lawlor and Neil Magny.
Continuing action on the main card is a featherweight bout featuring a long-time UFC veteran Ricardo Lamas and promotion newcomer Bill Algeo. Lama is coming off a tough run, losing three out of his last four.
He last competed over a year ago at UFC 238 in June 2019, suffering first-round TKO to Calvin Kattar. He previously earned a third-round TKO victory against Darren Elkins at UFC Fight Night 140 in November 2018.
Algeo gets the call up after earning a unanimous decision against Tim Dooling at CFFC 83 over two weeks ago on Aug. 13. It marked his first appearance since losing via unanimous decision to Brendan Loughnane on Dana White’s Contender Series in June 2018.

Algeo goes upstairs with a head kick early. Algeo lands a left hand. Lamas closes the distance and gets Algeo to the mat. Lamas is on the back of Algeo. Algeo is able to scramble and gets to his feet. Algeo backs Lamas to the cage and lands hook after hook. Lamas fires back and they split. Algeo lands another clean combination and ends with a head kick. Lamas drops for a takedown, Algeo lands some knees to the back. Lamas continues to work for a takedown, but Algeo keeps landing elbows to the back. Algeo wobbles Lamas. Lamas tries to defend. Algeo shoots for a takedown and gets it. Lamas escapes and gets a guillotine, but now Algeo escapes. Lamas has Algeo against the cage. Lamas is working for another takedown. Algeo reverses the position against the cage. Lamas lands a jab. Lamas ends round with front kick to the leg.
