RIZIN FF 8 – Bantamweight World Grand Prix 2nd Round Results – Kyoji Horiguchi advances
Earlier today, RIZIN Fighting Federation held the first of two fight cards that will round out the 2017 calendar year for the organization. RIZIN FF 8, also known at the Bantamweight World Grand Prix 2nd Round was held at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama Japan.
Attendance for the event estimated around 15,539 people. The second show will be held late Saturday night into Sunday morning here in the United States.
Former UFC fighter and flyweight title contender Kyoji Horiguchi earned his sixth straight win after defeating Gabriel Oliveira via TKO.
The other former UFC flyweight title contender in today’s Grand Prix did not fare as well. Ian McCall had his head sliced open by the ring ropes in his fight against Manel Kape. Kape then landed a knee and applied a guillotine choke. As blood poured, the referee called for the action to be stopped for a look by the ringside physician. The fight was called off and Kape advances to fight Horiguchi on Saturday.

Yesterday Gabi Garcia missed weight for her scheduled bout with Shinobu Kandori. Not only did Garcia miss weight, but she came in more than 26 pounds over the limit against her 53-year old opponent. Today Garcia posted an apology and excuse which appears to have been due to a blood pressure issue as well as having her menstrual cycle. Today Garcia entered the ring to offer a formal apology as well.
