Robbie Lawler vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio added to UFC 282
An exciting welterweight bout between veteran strikers Robbie Lawler and Santiago Ponzinibbio has been added to the UFC 282 PPV card.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was the first to report the Lawler vs. Ponzinibbio matchup for UFC 282, which takes place on December 10 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event of this card is expected to be the rematch between UFC light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka and former champion Glover Teixeira.
Lawler (29-16, 1 NC) is coming off of an epic brawl against Bryan Barberena at UFC 276 last month where he lost via second-round TKO in the “Fight of the Night” on that card. Now age 40, Lawler has lost five of his last six fights and he is not the same championship-level welterweight fighter that he once was. But he still knows how to put on one hell of a show for the fans and is always exciting to watch fight.
Ponzinibbio (28-6) is coming off of back-to-back split decision losses to Michel Pereira and Geoff Neal, but he, too, is also one of the most exciting welterweights in the game. In fact, Ponzinibbio has won “Fight of the Night” in two of his last three fights, and he’s won bonuses in three of his last four victories overall. That being said, he has also struggled as of late with a 1-3 record in his last four fights. Ponzinibbio is still one of the most fun action fighters at 170lbs, but he does need to get back into the win column if he’s going to make one last welterweight title run.
Overall, this looks like a very competitive fight on paper. The odds should be fairly close overall, though Ponzinibbio will likely be slightly favored due to being younger.
