Rodolfo Vieira submits Armen Petrosyan with arm-triangle choke in UFC Vegas 86 main card opener

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, February 10, 2024, for UFC Vegas 86, going down live from the UFC Apex in Enterprise, Nevada.

Headlining the event is a middleweight match up between no. 11 ranked Jack Hermansson (23-8) and Joe Pyfer (12-2).

Co-headlining the event is a featherweight scrap between no. 13 ranked Dan Ige (17-7) and Andre Fili (23-10).

Opening up the main card tonight was a middleweight showcase between multi-time BJJ world champion Rodolfo Vieira (10-2) and multi-time world and national kickboxing champion Armen Petrosyan (9-3).

Vieira had gone 4-2 since joining the UFC in 2019, all four wins coming via submission, while Petrosyan had gone 3-1 since joining in 2022, the most notable win of which came over Gregory Rodrigues (SD) in his promotional debut.

Official Result: Rodolfo Vieira def. Armen Petrosyan via submission (arm-triangle choke) at 4:48 of round one

Vieira secures a single leg takedown about two minutes into the opening round, partially taking Petrosyan’s back along the fence before Petrosyan works his way back up. Vieira then takes him down again with a double leg, before again letting him back up.

Petrosyan wasn’t able to get up the third time however, as Vieira double legs him and soon after secures mount, where he sinks in the arm-triangle choke win late in round one.

Rodolfo Vieira is now 5-2 inside the octagon following this victory at UFC Vegas 86, this being his fourth arm-triangle choke finish since joining the promotion which is now a record.
