Rose Namajunas Reveals Why She Turned Down Title Fight Against Zhang Weili

Rose Namajunas and the move to 125-pounds

Former two-time UFC strawweight champion “Thug” Rose Namajunas will move to 125-pounds for the first time in her professional mixed martial arts career.

The 31-year-old fighter from Wisconsin will face France’s Manon Fiorot in enemy territory this weekend in a fight that could sway how Namajunas will be remembered by fans.

Will the former champion who is currently coming off a lackluster title defense loss to Carla Esparza impress fans with a victory in the new weight class? Or will she drop her second fight in a row and put herself in a situation where she will need multiple consecutive wins to claw her way back to a title shot in either division?

Had Namajunas remained at 115-pounds, she likely would find herself right back in the title mix. She has defeated current champion Weili Zhang two times, and the woman who defeated her in that subpar performance, Carla Esparza, is currently waiting to give birth to her first child.

Fiorit is undefeated in the UFC, a tough test for any fighter. While Namajunas does have all the tools to defeat her opponent at UFC Paris on Saturday, her decision to move up to flyweight is a career gamble. The odds stacked up against Namajunas make for an exciting bet. Casinos with a minimum deposit are the ones that you want to look for because with skillsets this evenly contested, some will be trying to play both sides.

If anyone can overcome adversity and prove to fans why she will one day be a UFC Hall of Famer, “Thug Rose” is the woman to get the job done.  From battling through many of life’s adversities to capturing UFC gold on multiple occasions, defying odds when many counted her out, Namajunas is not one to be taken lightly.

This weekend’s UFC Fight Night takes place at the Accor Arena in Paris, France and will be broadcast live via ESPN+.
