Ryan Garcia suspended 1 year, says “I’m headed to the UFC”
The New York State Athletic Commission has suspended boxing star Ryan Garcia for a minimum of one year according to reports. The move comes after he tested positive for banned substances following an April 20 bout against rival Devin Haney.
In addition to the suspension, Garcia must forfeit his official contract purse to Golden Boy Promotions, totaling $1.1 million, and he must pay a fine of $10,000 to the state of New York.
Garcia tested positive for the banned substance ostarine in two drug tests with the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA).
Garcia tested positive in both a pre-fight test on April 19, and a post-fight test on April 20. The two men fought April 20 at the Barclays Center in New York, New York with Garcia getting a decision win.
Following news of the suspension Garcia went on a social media tirade to include saying that he is headed to the UFC, even telling Dana White to hit him up.
