Sam Patterson previews DWCS fight against Vinicius Cenci
Sam Patterson joins Lenny from MyMMANews this week to preview his upcoming bout on Dana White’s Contender Series Season 6: Week 10. Watch him perform on UFC Fight Pass on September 27th.
Patterson (9-1-1), has had to grind his way to get his chance to be in the UFC, producing some of best performances to date in the Brave Combat Federation promotion. The English born fighter scene has burst onto the scene in the recent year and holds wins over Conor McGregor teammate and friend Cian Cowley. Also wins over, former UFC veteran Felipe Silva, Ylies Djiroun and Kamil Magomedov. Patterson rides into this fight on an 8 fight winning streak with a sole draw in that run.
His opponent Vinicius Cenci (6-1), is a consistent finisher with all 6 wins finished inside the distance, his only loss in MMA came in his professional debut in late 2016.
Sam Patterson interview:
“The Future” looks to earn his ticket to the UFC with a win over surging Brazilian:
“The guy (Vinicius) comes to finish and comes to fight and that always makes for an exciting fight. Some people come to win and they also come not to lose, it is hard to explain but they are stepping in their to make it through the fifteen minutes and make it very boring, you don’t want to go on the contender series and have a boring fight.
Him (Vinicius) being an explosive finisher benefits me and I think it makes for a very exciting fight.”
As mentioned previously, his opponent Vinicius Cenci is a finisher with 5 out of his 6 victories by submission:
“In camp I focus 95% on me. I focus on my all round game, It’s not just a striker vs. grappler match-up. I work my whole game, I am prepared for every single way this fight goes. If it turns into a grappling match or a striking match It doesn’t matter to me, I am prepared everywhere. I pride myself on, I’m not great anywhere, I am good everywhere. Wherever the fight goes I’m prepared to win all the situations.”
A win over Cenci could guarantee his shot inside the UFC, but what would it mean for Patterson to become a UFC fighter?
“I am meant to be in the UFC. The Wednesday after the fight will feel surreal and I probably won’t have slept but it will feel correct. It is exactly where i am meant to be, I am ready for the UFC. I can’t wait to go out there and perform and earn that contract in front of Dana White and show that I am UFC caliber.
