Scott Coker: “Bellator roster will really blossom next year”
In the most recent years, it can be stated that Bellator MMA has been one of the best MMA organizations around. Why? Only because it has gone from just a small promotion that aired on MTV2 every so often, to now arguably the #2 organization on the planet only behind the UFC.
A big reason for this happening, all has to do with one man, current Bellator MMA president Scott Coker. Since his introduction as Bellator’s head honcho in June of 2014, Coker has made a definite impact in the company, most notably with the Bellator roster.
Stemming from his time with Strikeforce (a now defunct promotion he previously ran), Coker has always had a knack for acquiring superstar talent while molding an building the home grown talent. Fast forward to 2018, Coker is still using this same formula, only this time he’s got bigger stars which consist of names like Frank Mir, Roy Nelson, Mirko Cro Cop, Wanderlei Silva, Chael Sonnen, Rampage Jackson, Matt Mitrione, and the late Kimbo Slice, as well as promising home grown prospects like AJ Mckee, Aaron Pico, James Gallagher, and Tyrell-Tyree Fortune.
Though it may be good for Bellator business wise to have these house hold names main-eventing some of their marquee shows, Scott Coker has the highest expectations in his younger, ever growing array of up-an-comers to be the group that carries the company into the future.
“The roster looks a lot different than it was three years ago,”Coker explained to MMAJunkie earlier this week.
“If you look at the roster now, it’s something I’m very proud of.”
Maybe another year, that’s when you’ll see Aaron Pico really flourish out. AJ McKee, James Gallagher, the Fortunes…These are the future of the company, and I think you’re gonna see them really blossom in the next year.”
What else do you think Scott Coker has in store for Bellator MMA in 2018?and how far into the future do you think he’ll take the company?
