Sean O’Malley calls out Pedro Munhoz for UFC 274
Rising UFC bantamweight star Sean O’Malley called out longtime title contender Pedro Munhoz for an upcoming fight on the UFC 274 pay-per-view.
O’Malley is 7-1 overall in the UFC and he is currently riding a three-fight win streak with knockouts over Raulian Paiva, Kris Moutinho, and Thomas Almeida. He is the No. 12 ranked bantamweight on the UFC roster right now, and with that ranking will likely come a big-name opponent for his next fight. Looking at the top-10, there is one name that stands out for O’Malley the most. It’s the No. 9 ranked Munhoz, who has been one of the best bantamweights in the sport for years. However, with Munhhoz having lost four of his last five fights, he could be losing a step, and O’Malley wants to pounce on him if that’s the case.
Speaking on his Twitch, O’Malley was asked who he wants to fight next. “Suga” suggested that UFC 274 is a good time for him to return, and when he does step back into the cage, he wants to go against Munhoz.
“I’m thinking Pedro (Munhoz) but we will see. I’m going to make sure I can f*cking train full time and my f*cking sh*t feels good,” O’Malley said (h/t BJPenn.com).
O’Malley is one of the top bantamweight prospects in the UFC, but the promotion has been very kind to him with its matchmaking, often booking him across from unranked opposition, especially after he lost to Marlon Vera. However, after O’Malley beat a ranked opponent in Paiva his last time out, the UFC can no longer justify giving him unranked opponents. That’s why someone like Munhoz — a highly-respected veteran who is tough, durable, and always shows up to fight — makes sense, given that he is a big name, but also someone who is likely on a career decline at age 35 after having lost four of his last five fights.
