Sean O’Malley – “I don’t want to lose any fight ever. So, the motivation is not getting my ass whooped.”
UFC bantamweight champion “Sugar” Sean O’Malley (17-1) will make his first title defense when he meets Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera in a rematch at UFC 299 on March 9.
The lone loss on the champion’s record comes by way of strikes from Vera at their initial meeting in 2020.
Since that blemish was placed on O’Malley’s resume, the now 29-year-old champion has been nearly perfect. He has picked up five wins to include grabbing the championship from now former champion Aljamain Sterling.
What motivates O’Malley to perform so well?
“I don’t want to lose any fight ever, O’Malley told CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouri. “So, the motivation is not getting my ass whooped. That’s always the motivation. This one is just a little bit sweeter because it’s the rematch. It is Chito. There’s just some people that have such ugly and punchable faces that it makes it a little more enjoyable punching those people. Chito just happens to be one of those guys.”
