Sean O’Malley on Petr Yan matchup at UFC 280: “I’m better than Petr”
UFC bantamweight contender Sean O’Malley reacted to the Petr Yan matchup at UFC 280, saying that “I’m better than Petr.”
In a surprise, O’Malley vs. Yan was announced to take place at October’s UFC 280 pay-per-view card in Abu Dhabi. O’Malley is coming off of a No Contest against Pedro Munhoz at UFC 276 and he is ranked No. 13 in the division, so it was a bit of a surprise to see him get paired up with the division’s No. 1 contender in Yan. That being said, it’s obviously a fight that is exciting for fans, and it makes the UFC 280 card even deeper.
Speaking to Ryan Clark on the DC & RC show, O’Malley gave his initial thoughts on the matchup against Yan. Even though this is by far the best opponent that “Suga” has fought so far in his MMA career, he believes that he will get past “No Mercy” this October. As far as O’Malley goes, he is the better MMA fighter and he will show it.
“I believe I’m better than Petr at what we’re going to do, and that’s f*cking fighting. I’m better than Petr, and I truly believe that. I think that is what is going to get the job done. I’m going to go in there more prepared than Petr, I’m going to go in there and do what I do,” O’Malley said (h/t BJPenn.com).
“Obviously putting Petr’s lights out would be massive but I just need to go in there and get the job done against Petr Yan. Three, five minutes rounds, he’s the best dude I’ve fought hands down. I’m very excited for the opportunity, I just believe I’m going to be better, on October 22nd, against Petr.”
The betting odds for this fight have already been released, with Yan about a -400 favorite to get past O’Malley, who is a +300 underdog.
