Sean O’Malley vs. Marlon Vera II – Preview and Prediction
Sean O’Malley will rematch Marlon Vera in the main of UFC 299 this Saturday night.
The fight will mark O’Malley’s first title defense as he just won the title in August when he knocked out Aljamain Sterling.
The last time the two meet inside of the octagon, Vera got his hand raised in a controversial fashion as O’Malley injured his leg. Vera did land some calf kicks in the fight, but O’Malley won’t given Vera the credit as the two have been jawing at each other ever since that fight.
With UFC 299 just days, here’s a preview and prediction of the rematch. The full preview and prediction can be seen in the video above.
Marlon Vera is defensively sound. Can he produce offense against Sean O’Malley?
“Chito” always has his hand up and that may give O’Malley some trouble as the big knockout shot may not be there.
For Vera, the key to win is keep those hands up, cut the distance and land some big shots in a phone booth, city boxing situation.
Also look out for Vera’s calf kicks.
Sean O’Malley can dance his way to victory.
O’Malley will be taller and longer like he always is. He’s also so great with his movement.
He must stay disciplined and avoid a phone booth style matchup as Vera may be able to capitalize and end the night early.
If O’Malley floats around the octagon and jabs away while also mixing in high and low keys, it’s going to be a long night for Vera.
Tale of the Tape
This favors O’Malley big time, but no surprises there. He’s bigger and taller than everyone in the bantamweight division.
Oddsmakers
They are in love with O’Malley in this UFC 299 main event and that shouldn’t be a shocker given everything O’Malley has accomplished. Yes, Vera did get the win the last time, but the oddsmakers aren’t look too far into that.
Prediction
If O’Malley stays long and floats around, I see him outpointing Vera with ease and if Vera gets desperate trying to create offense, look for a huge counter from O’Malley whose been known to snipe people whenever they try that on him.
Vera must keep those hands up and find a way to create offense.
Road seems easier for O’Malley here.
Prediction: Sean O’Malley defeats Marlon Vera by unanimous decision
