Sean Strickland improves win streak over Jack Hermansson at UFC Vegas 47

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, February 5, 2022 for UFC Vegas 47, headlined by middleweight contenders Jack Hermansson and Sean Strickland.

Co-headlining the event is also a middleweight contest, this one between rising prospects Puna Soriano and Nick Maximov.

Reverting back to the main event, Hermansson comes in ranked at No. 6 in the division, while Strickland is ranked at No. 7 coming in. Strickland is also on a five-fight win streak coming in, and he’s also 17-0 at 185 lbs throughout his career.

This is a perfectly typical striker versus grappler match up, continue reading to see how it went down:

Official Result: Sean Strickland def. Jack Hermansson via split decision (49-46, 47-48, 49-46)

Strickland takes the center once the fight begins and gets his punches going, while Hermansson lands a number of nice calf kicks. He continues to land them and Strickland is forced to either evade, or start checking them.

Hermansson tries hard for the takedown, but is shrugged off and they’re back to striking, where Strickland is the superior athlete.

Strickland is starting to land nice combinations on Hermansson, and things aren’t looking so well for the Norwegian, as he’s dropped at the end of the second round.

Hermansson is throwing back, he’s definitely trying the entire time, but he falls short on the striking totals. As many expected, if Hermansson cannot secure the takedown, Strickland is going to get he better of the exchanges.

Though this contest resulted in a split decision, no disrespect to Hermansson, but that’s obscene. Strickland handily won this contest, though he did coast to the decision, while it appeared Hermansson was trying harder.

Strickland is now 18-0 overall at 185 lbs, on a six-fight win streak, and he’ll certainly jump up at least one spot in the rankings on Monday.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
