Sean Woodson improves streak to six-straight with win over Alex Caceres at UFC St Louis

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to us tonight, May 11, 2024 for UFC St Louis, going down live from the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Headlining the event is a heavyweight bout between the UFC’s all-time knockout leader, no. 12 ranked Derrick Lewis (27-12) and the surging no. 15 ranked Rodrigo Nascimento (11-1).

Co-headlining the event is a welterweight showcase between Joaquin Buckley (18-6) and Nursulton Ruziboev (34-8-2).

Our second bout going down on the main card tonight came in the featherweight division between Alex Caceres (21-15) and Sean Woodson (12-1-1).

Caceres came into the bout having gone 7-2 over his latest nine appearances, while Woodson had gone 5-1-1 through his first seven octagon bouts to date.

Official Result: Sean Woodson def. Alex Caceres via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)

Woodson landed a stiff jab early on in the bout and soon after a slick one-two right down the middle. He also got some good calf kicks going in the first and utilized his striking at distance throughout the opening round, keeping Caceres at the end of his combinations.

Caceres had a much better round two, storming forward with punch combinations and landing at the end of many of them. Woodson continued landing good shots of his own as well, including a right hook, right cross, and round kick to the body of Caceres in the final seconds of the middle stretch.

Caceres continued marching forward in the third and final round, getting better and better as it went. After the first round he realized he had to get creative with his attack, and that’s what he did, getting into range with spinning back fists on a few occasions and unloading on punches in close, landing a lot of beautiful shovel hooks to the body.

This wasn’t a robbery, but it was much closer than the scorecards suggest. Woodson handily won the first, Caceres did much better in the second, that one could’ve gone either way, and Caceres without question won the third.

Nonetheless, Sean Woodson improves his unbeaten streak to six-straight tonight at UFC St Louis, and called out no. 12 ranked Bryce Mitchell following his win.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
