Semelsberger trusts his “dynamic striking” against Witt but is “not afraid to go to the ground”
Matt “Semi The Jedi” Semelsberger made good on his UFC debut in August of 2020 when he defeated Carlton Minus via decision. Making a dream become a reality has been nothing short of humbling for the Maryland native, Semelsberger.
“It almost seemed like it ain’t real until I got in there and got the fight done,” Semelsberger reminisces of his first outing in the Octagon. Admitting, “a lot of gratitude! I’m just thankful that I’m in the position that I’m in,” he reflects.
Stepping up in competition, Semelsberger takes on seasoned veteran, Jason “The Vanilla Gorilla” Witt on March 13th at UFC Fight Night: Edwards vs. Muhammad. “Strong, strong grappler,” Semelsberger credits Witt. “He’s a veteran. He knows what he’s doing. He seems like he likes to lean towards the grappling and wrestling and getting people on the ground. And that kind of seems like his A-game but I’m also not knocking his striking!”
Assessing his matchup against Witt, “SemiTheJedi” took a blast to his past to rely on an old, trusty companion; “taking it back to the college football days,” he says. “Man, I was a film study master!”
After hours spent vested into studying Witt’s tendencies and strengths, Semelsberger believes his “striking is more dynamic. I think my athleticism, my explosion, and my speed and everything man! I think that’s going to play a big part,” Semelsberger dissects.
While Semelsberger didn’t give a concise prediction of how he anticipated the fight to unfold, the welterweight prospect says, “I have a prediction written down in a little journal that I got. But I’m not going to say,” assuring MyMMANews he’d return for a post-fight interview unveiling his detailed memento.
