Senator Mullin, former MMA fighter, challenges Teamsters President to fight during committee meeting
Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) on Tuesday challenged Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien to a during a Senate committee hearing.
Senator Mullin told O’Brien to “stand your butt up,” to which O’Brien replied “stand your butt up then,” prompting Mullin to leap from his chair at the dais during a Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee meeting.
Committee Chairman Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) broke up the feud, telling Mullin to sit down: “stop it . . you’re a United States senator . . . hold it, hold it,” Sanders yelled.
Mullin, who has three MMA fights to his credit according to Sherdog.com, challenged O’Brien after the two men have been feuding online.
The Senator challenged O’Brien to a mixed martial arts brawl in June in response to O’Brien’s tweet suggesting the two should settle their grievances in a physical fight.
Mullin was elected to the House of Representatives in 2012 and won a special Senate election last year. He competed in MMA in 2006 and 2007, finishing all three of his bouts in the first or second round.
