Stephen Thompson responds to callout from Anthony “Showtime” Pettis

Former UFC lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis is looking to get back into the octagon, but it is his recent approach in looking for a fight that has left fans scratching their heads.

Pettis, who is coming off a loss to Tony Ferguson at UFC 229 in October, posted a photo of former welterweight contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson on Instagram along with the caption, “Heard somebody is looking for a fight. What you guys think? Take my talents to WW and take on the boy? Comment ⬇️ let me know if y’all get excited for this one #showtime #lovethis #forthefans #teampettis”

That is when Wonderboy responded with a post of his own.

“For the fans! If @showtimepettis wants to come try out 170 y’all know I’m ready. We both got highlight reels, let’s do it!”

Wonderboy’s confidence in the proposed fight began to take off as fans commented.  Most were in agreement that Pettis would not win a fight against Thompson, or that he should get that kind of matchup in his first fight at welterweight.

angelawarzonYou – TKO’d the 185 lb champ. He was TKO’d by the 145 lb champ. Doesn’t seem fair. Plus – he has lost six of his last nine fights. @wonderboymma – fight Till again. Or, move up and fight @stylebender.

wonderboymma – @hoollyy_wood that’s what I thought too

rowzhuebnerNot – the call out I was expecting but can’t wait to see u back!!

wonderboymma – @rowzhuebner me either 🤷‍♂️ but I’m ready for whatever lol

Thompson then told MyMMANews, “I’m not sure why he (Pettis) called me out.  I’m just looking for a fight.  Was supposed to fight (Santiago) Ponzinibbio but he didn’t want to fight.”

Thompson is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Darren Till at UFC Fight Night 130 in May 2018.
