Tabatha Ricci discusses her upcoming fight at UFC on ABC 5
Tabatha Ricci is settled into her career and now she has the opportunity to pick up another big win on another big stage.
After starting off her UFC career with a loss in a short notice fight that wasn’t in her weight class, Ricci has bounced back in a big way.
“The baby shark” has now won three in a row by posting unanimous decision wins over Maria Oliveira and Polyana Viana and in her last fight she had her best performance at UFC 285.
Fighting on a big stage with Jon Jones heading a card, Ricci submitted former title challenger Jessica Penne to not only pick up her third UFC win, but she also became a ranked UFC fighter with that win as she now sits at No. 15 in the official UFC strawweight rankings.
With all the success, comes bigger opportunities and that’s what’s up next for Ricci when she takes on Gillian Robertson this weekend at UFC on ABC 5.
Robertson fought post of her career at flyweight and in the UFC she is tired for first with Katlyn Chookagian for wins (13) in the 125 division. Her seven UFC finishes are also the most of any fighter in the flyweight division.
Following a great run at flyweight, Robertson made the decision to move down strawweight in her last fight and she picked another submission win over Ricci’s teammate Piera Rodriguez.
Now Ricci, gets the opportunity to share the octagon with Robertson in a fight in which the winner will make an eye opening statement for the rest of the division.
Ahead of the fight, Ricci spoke with MyMMANews about the big matchup with Robertson, being ranked in the UFC, her thoughts on some upcoming women’s fights and the retirement of fellow Brazilian fighter and UFC great Amanda Nunes.
