Tanner Boser makes quick turnaround, booked against former champion Andrei Arlovski
Tanner Boser seems to be fighting every month now.
The Canadian heavyweight got into the UFC last year. He had two fights going 1-1 with a win over Daniel Spitz and a decision loss to Ciryl Gane. Yet, in 2020, Boser has been 2-0 with a first-round knockout win over Philipe Lins on June 27. He then took a short notice fight on July 25 on Fight Island where he beat Raphael Pessoa by second-round TKO.
Now, Boser will be getting in his third fight of 2020 as he will battle former heavyweight champion, Andrei Arlovski on October 3. TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter was first to report the news and MyMMANews has since confirmed the matchup with sources close to the situation.
Tanner Boser is 19-6-1 in his career and is no stranger to taking these short-notice fights. Before he got to the UFC, he was fighting in Russian promotions, ACB and M-1. He would take a fight on a week or two notice in Russia. Before he got the Las Vegas-based promotion, Boser had notable wins over Rakim Cleveland, Tony Lopez, and the late Tim Hague.
This will no doubt be Boser’s biggest fight in the UFC as he gets to lock horns with the former heavyweight champion. A win over Arlovski should propel the Canadian into the top-15 or get him a ranked opponent next.
Andrei Arlovski, meanwhile, returned to the win column last time out as he beat Philipe Lins by decision in May. Before that, he suffered a first-round knockout loss to Jairzinho Rozenstruik. The 41-year-old is just 2-4 with one no-contest in his last seven but is always dangerous.
In his last fight, Arlovski proved he still has the fight IQ to be able to earn a decision win. If he can beat Boser, it would be a massive win for the former champion and perhaps he can fight a ranked opponent next.
