Tatiana Suarez set to return to strawweight after UFC Vegas 70, vows to be champion

Tatiana Suarez is planning to return to strawweight after her return fight at UFC Vegas 70.

Suarez has not fought since UFC 238 in June of 2019 and since then, she has been dealing with a plethora of injuries. Yet, she is finally set to return on Saturday at UFC Vegas 70 up a weight class at flyweight against Montana De La Rosa.

Although Suarez is fighting at 125lbs, she says after this Saturday she says she will return to strawweight after this fight. Not only does she plan to return to 115lbs, but Suarez is confident she will become the champ there and defend her belt multiple times.

“I think I’m going to be a champion. I can’t wait to get the belt and then defend it as many times as I can,” Suarez said at UFC Vegas 70 media day. “A lot of people like to focus on the whole double champ and whatever, but I think it’s really cool when you have a champion that’s so dominant in their division, and they defend multiple times. I want to defend my belt multiple times before I go up to flyweight and do all that stuff.”

Before Tatiana Suarez can set her sights on the strawweight title she will need to beat De La Rosa on Saturday. She has dealt with a ton of injuries, which Suarez admits was tough to deal with.

“It’s definitely been frustrating. If I was focused on my frustrations, I would probably never get here,” Suarez added. “Regardless of my frustrations, I made sure to stay motivated and just remember that I want to be the best in the world and that I have to have that mentality whether life is going my way or it’s not. Even after all those years when I was rehabilitating my neck, it was a struggle every single day, especially when you can’t do what you love.”

Tatiana Suarez (8-0) is coming off a decision win over Nina Nunes last time out in 2019. Prior to that, she had notable wins over Carla Esparza and Alexa Grasso – with both wins coming by stoppage.
