Tecia Torres spins her way to a win over Angela Hill at UFC 265

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, August 7, 2021, for UFC 265, headlined by an interim heavyweight championship bout between No. 2 ranked Derrick Lewis and No. 3 ranked Ciryl Gane.

Co-headlining the event is an incredible bantamweight showdown between former multi-time WEC & UFC featherweight champion, No. 5 ranked Jose Aldo, who faces No. 9 ranked Pedro Munhoz in a three round scrap.

The second bout on the main card tonight, following a bantamweight battle between Song Yadong and Casey Kenney, was a women’s strawweight bout, a rematch of a 2015 contest between Tecia Torres and Angela Hill.

Back then, Torres was 5-0, while Hill was 2-0 coming in, and Torres out-classed Hill to a unanimous decision victory. They’ve both improved a decent amount since, but it does appear Hill has filled more gaps that her adversary.

Time will soon tell.

Official Result: Tecia Torres defeats Angela Hill via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Round 1

Tecia Torres opens up throwing the kick to keep the long Hill away. Hill comes with an overhand and Torres dips under and around. Torres blitzes and catches Hill with a four punch combo, overwhelming her. Torres kicks the leg and Hill catches it and sweeps Torres. Hill pushes against the fence as Torres wall walks up but hill has her hands locked and gets her back to the ground. Torres gets back up and Hill finally breaks her grip and the two separate. Torres catches Hill coming in with a big leg kick that buckles her knee. Every time Torres comes in, Hill retreats. Torres shoots in on the double and briefly gets the fight to the ground but Hill pops right up. Torres does well feinting her directing drawing out over reacting attacks from Hill. Torres shoots in on a takedown and then when failed, the two start banging it out in the pocket. As time expires Torres keeps coming forward with kicks and Hill lands a great body kick.

Round 2

Mike Beltrand starts round two and Tecia Torres comes out swinging wildly. Hill starts to cut the cage off a little better and it slows Torres down slightly. Torres continues to work the leg kicks in the early second round. Torres has a good read on Hill and keeps Hill swinging at air. Hill keeps trying to get in but is baffled by Torres’ feints. Hill catches a kick and gets the back getting the trip takedown. Torres gets up and walks to the fence to peel Hill off. Later in the round, Hill continues to come forward and eating kicks from Torres. Hill gets the Thai clinch and Torres starts throwing bombs as Hill tries to knee. Hill wants none of it and exits. Torres has the lead leg of Hill hurt as she buckles every time she kicks. Torres throws some wild stuff and then throws a spinning roundhouse and falls on the momentum. Hill gets on top and tries to choke her out but time is short and the bell rings.

Round 3

Round three begins with Hill needing a finish. Tecia Torres is still light on her feet as Hill starts to come forward. Torres circles the cage and Hill follows before clinching and pushing Torres to the fence before Torres gets the undertook and escapes. Torres gets in the pocket and uses her shorter length to really get good work done. Torres shoots a takedown and Hill peels her off. Hill comes with pressure at the midpoint in the round and Torres continues to fire in flurries and exit fast. Torres throws a kick and Hill catches it and lets go against the fence. Torres still gets in the pocket and Hill just runs backward. Hill cannot keep Torres off of her. Hill is landing some decent shots but not at as high of a clip. Torres has a bloody nose right now with a minute left. Hill shoots again and pushes against the fence but had nothing again. Time winds down and Torres shoots in on a takedown and gets it. Hill tries to get the back and Torres pushes through getting the top again with a couple hammer fist. As the bell rung, Hill got the toss and almost got it to the ground. Bell rings, fight is over.
