Tenshin Nasukawa announces retirement from kickboxing to pursue boxing
Kickboxing phenom Tenshin Nasukawa announced today that he intends to retire from kickboxing and plans to pursue boxing full time. His last match will be at the RISE event in March of 2022. His contract currently has him with four more bouts.
Nasukawa has competed in kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA and the exhibition boxing bout with Floyd Maywearther in 2018. He’s been unblemished in every fight except for his bout with Mayweather. Tension Nasukawa is the RISE featherweight champion and also has competed in RIZIN for multiple events as well.
Nasukawa said, “I decided to retire from kickboxing and switch to boxing because of my desire to always take on the challenge.” In response to the conversion, he said, “I think that there is a part that can be applied to boxing opponents because of the skill of kicking. Since I started practicing boxing for conversion, I have only stimulated every day. In boxing It’s a start from the bottom, so I’m excited to see how strong the players are on the top.”
Tenshin Nasukawa and Boxing
Boxing has been on Tenshin Nasukawa and his team’s mind for some time. As evident from the Mayweather exhibition, Tenshin and his team are keen on taking on the best, even if outweighed by 30 or more pounds.
Nasukawa seeks out challenges and the one remaining challenge in kickboxing is of course the long awaited bout with Takeru which has been flirted with for months. With Nasukawa seeking out new challenges, should he and Takeru square off he could see his work in kickboxing complete and seek the aforementioned challenges.
Tenshin Nasukawa obviously hasn’t signed with any promotions for boxing yet, as he’s still locked up in contract with RISE. But look for him to be a hot commodity on the boxing market. With his giant following in Japan, he will be someone all the big names want to get their hands on.
