Tony Ferguson blasts Dustin Poirier for dodging him

Tony Ferguson wasn’t happy with Dustin Poirier despite “The Diamond” picking up the biggest win of his career on Saturday night.

Originally, Ferguson and Poirier were linked to face one another in October at UFC 254. It was set to be the backup fight for the lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje. However, Poirier ended up pricing himself out of the bout as he said he needed to be compensated fairly.

“I’m in,” Poirier told ESPN “… I just need to be compensated if they want this fight. Simple as that. I’m a prizefighter and the prize needs to be right.”

After Poirier did not get what he wanted, Tony Ferguson even had his back and still wanted to face The Diamond at UFC 256. However, Poirier ended up taking the Conor McGregor fight and scored a second-round knockout win but Ferguson has accused Poirier of dodging him.

“Good Fight But You Dodged Me Kid. #SeeYouSoon -Champ,” Ferguson wrote on social media after Poirier declared himself the uncrowned champion.

Prior to the win over McGregor, Dustin Poirier had a Fight of the Year contender against Dan Hooker in June which he won by decision. It was his first time fighting since he suffered a submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title. He is also the former interim lightweight champion.

Tony Ferguson, meanwhile, is on a two-fight losing streak after being dominated by Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje to snap his losing skid. Entering the Gaethje fight, “El Cucuy” was considered the boogeyman of the division as he was on a 12-fight winning streak with wins over Anthony Pettis, Donald Cerrone, and Kevin Lee among others.

Whether or not Ferguson and Poirier will ever share the Octagon with one another is uncertain at this time. It would be a big fight, and has an intriguing storyline for it.
