Tony Ferguson says he was offered to step up to rematch Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 272: ‘More Than Ready To Step In And Save The Fight’

Tony Ferguson says he was offered to fight Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 272.

On Monday, it was revealed Rafael Fiziev was out of his UFC 272 co-main event scrap against dos Anjos after testing positive. After that, a couple of fighters offered to step up on short notice but on social media, Ferguson says he was offered the rematch and is ready to take the bout.

“We Were Offered To Fight @RdosAnjosMMA For #Ufc272 We We’re Moar Than Ready To Step In And Save The Fight & Perform. We Were Also Ready To Beat Fatheads Primo @MAKHACHEVMMA This Past Weekend But No Call Was Received, TUF Times CSO,” Ferguson wrote on social media.

Ferguson and dos Anjos fought back in 2016 in Mexico in the main event. Ferguson won by decision and was awarded the Fight of the Night bonus and he then went on to fight for and win the interim lightweight title in his next fight.

Tony Ferguson (25-6) is on a three-fight losing skid and coming off a dominant decision loss to Beneil Dariush back at UFC 262 last May. Prior to that, he suffered another dominant decision loss to Charles Oliveira at UFC 256 and also suffered a TKO loss to Justin Gaethje for the interim lightweight title to start the losing streak. The loss to Gaethje snapped his 12-fight win streak.

Rafael dos Anjos (30-13) has not fought since he beat Paul Felder by decision in November of 2020 in his return to lightweight. Prior to that, he suffered decision losses to Michael Chiesa and Leon Edwards and is just 2-4 in his last six. His other win was a submission victory over Kevin Lee but at welterweight, he suffered defeats to Colby Covington for the interim belt and Kamaru Usman as well.

As of right now, there has been no word on who dos Anjos will fight on Saturday, but Ferguson appeared to be interested.
