UFC 235 on track for card of the year
It is early, but it appears there is already a front-runner for the card of the year for 2019. UFC 235, which takes place on March 2 in Las Vegas, Nevada will have two title fights on the line with notable other names on the card.
The reported main event will be Jon Jones vs Anthony Smith for the light heavyweight title, where it will also serve as Jones’ first title defense since re-claiming his belt. However, that fight can’t be finalized until Jones attends his Nevada State Athletic Commission hearing to grant him a license for the fight. The other title fight will be Tyron Woodley looking to defend his belt against top contender Kamaru Usman after contracts were finalized today. The two have gone back-and-forth on social media and now will finally get the chance to fight inside the Octagon.
Plus, if that isn’t enough, former Bellator and ONE Championship title holder, Ben Askren will make his long-awaited UFC debut against the former welterweight champion, Robbie Lawler. Askren has been calling out the entire welterweight division and now he will finally have a chance to prove to the world just how good he is. Along with Askren vs. Lawler, Holly Holm will return to the Octagon to take on rising star Aspen Ladd in what may very well be a number one contender fight.
Then, prospect and fan favorite, Zabit Magomedsharipov will take on Jeremy Stephens in a fight that has the fight of the night written all over it. Ultimately, this card is already stacked with other fun fights on the card like Tecia Torres vs. Weili Zhang and Misha Cirkunov vs. Ovince Saint Preux among others.
