UFC 267 sees Islam Makhachev and Rafael Dos Anjos re-booked
Rebooked once more, Islam Makhachev and Rafael Dos Anjos are squared away to fight. The two have been scheduled in the past with injury from Makachev and a positive Covid test for Rafael Dos Anjos. The bout is scheduled for UFC 267 on October 30th.
Reported by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, the fight is a relatively quick turnaround for Makachev who has traditionally had a hard time getting fights with meaningful opponents. Makhachev is coming off of his dominant performance over Thiago Moises in July that saw him choke the Brazilian out in round four of their main event. Before that it was a domination of stand up specialist Drew Dober.
Rafael Dos Anjos comes into UFC 267 looking to make it two straight in his return to lightweight. After a blazing fast start at welterweight, the former lightweight champion struggled later on with the best of the division including Kamaru Usman, the current champion. Dos Anjos last defeated Paul Felder in November, battering the the Irish Dragon for five rounds despite a questionable split decision.
With Dos Anjos and Makhachev added to UFC 267, it will definitely be one of the most looked at fights on the card. Makhachev is supposed to be the second coming of Khabib. A win over Dos Anjos, who struggles with wrestlers, would give him a quality win and put him in talks for a title eliminator.
Building UFC 267
UFC 267 is loaded and with the addition of Dos Anjos and Makhachev, the card gets even thicker. On top, you have a light heavyweight showdown with champ Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira. The co-main sees a rematch between Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling whose first fight ended controversially. Amanda Ribas also makes her return against Virna Jandiroba and Khamzat Chimaev makes his long awaited return.
