UFC 298 – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

UFC 298 was a fun night of fights as fight fans saw it all from Ilia Topuria defeating Alexander Volkanovski to win the featherweight title, to Ian Garry edging out a split decision and to Michael Bisping getting caught with a hot microphone.

There were also a lot of other better moments throughout the event, so now that it’s all over with, it’s time to review the good, the bad and the ugly from UFC 298.

The UFC 298 review can also be seen in the video above.

The Good – Ilia Topuria

Topuria called his shot and executed it to win the featherweight title.

His performance was definitely an eye opener as he looked great offensively and defensively on the biggest stage of them all.

Many thought Volkanovski was the greatest 145 pounder to ever fight in the octagon, but now he’s a former champion and if Topuria is going to keep cashing in performances like that, he’s not going anywhere.

Honorable Mention – Robert Whittaker vs. Paulo Costa, Amanda Lemos vs. Mackenzie Dern and Merab Dvalishvili beating Henry Cejudo

Whittaker and Costa put on a great show on the main card and many thought it was the fight of the night, but it wasn’t.

The fight of the night honor went to Lemos and Dern, who both also put on a highly entertaining fight.

Also, how could you not mention Dvalishvili when talking UFC 298? He made a statement by beating Cejudo and is now next in line to fight for the bantamweight title.

The Bad – Ian Garry

Personally, I have no problem with Garry getting the win and the way he did it. I also loved his call out of Colby Covington.

The fans may disagree as many thought Geoff Neal should have gotten the win as the fight was close and Garry squeezed out the split decision.

I understand where the fans are coming and an ugly win like that isn’t going to help win Garry over any fans.

The Ugly – Michael Bisping

Bisping got caught with a hot microphone on the UFC 298 broadcast and he dropped a slur that might not sit well with the politically correct culture.

Many fans and media members laughed it off, but the question is how will Disney act?

ESPN is owned by Disney so who knows what meetings are going to take place following the event.

Either way, hopefully Bisping isn’t in trouble. He’s a great commentator and a huge fan favorite. The UFC broadcast is better with him around and that’s a fact.
