Former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier (29-8) will return to the octagon against Benoit Saint-Denis (13-1) in what is scheduled to be a five-round co-main event at UFC 299 on March 9.
UFC CEO Dana White made the announcement via social media on Sunday night.

After back-to-back wins over Conor McGregor, Poirier faced setbacks as he went 1-2 inside the octagon. He would drop a submission loss to Charles Oliveira as the two men met for the lightweight title in December 2021. He then defeated Michael Chandler by way of rear-naked choke, and stumbled once again with a knockout loss by Justin Gaethje.
Saint-Denis is riding a five-fight win-streak with only one blemish on his record, a decision loss to Elizeu Zaleski in 2021.
UFC 299 is headlined by a bantamweight title bout between the defending Sean O’Malley and challenging Marlon “Chito” Vera.
